Finance Committee Minutes

Minutes of Finance Committee- September 9, 2015

Present were:  Chair KC Bretzke, members Carole Megarry and Linda Berglin,   bookkeeper Carrie Feldman and church administrator Jennifer Gahnstrom.

The minutes of the August meeting were accepted.

An agenda was set.

Custodian’s Salary.  Was discussed. SPPR has already approved unanimously an increase in his compensation to $15.50 per hour for scheduled janitorial service and $17.50 per hour for site manager services.  The effect should be $128 per month on his regular paycheck and $105 per party.  Walter approves of the increase.  Carrie can separate the janitorial and site manager compensation.  MSP to raise his compensation accordingly effective September 1, 2015.

Walter’s Salary. Carrie has spoken with the Simpson Church administrator.  We will write his paycheck for both churches and Simpson will reimburse us.  They will pay one half the housing allowance.

Financial Reports.  It was agreed that Carrie would just do the Profit and Loss report quarterly.

Shortfall?  We are experiencing a $14,000 YTD shortfall, but fall fundraising is about to begin, with the silent auction, rummage sale and art fair.  Linda pointed out it would be helpful to do projections of the year-end fundraising income.  Carrie and KC will do this.  It was pointed out that if Simpson will issue a reimbursement check during September that should facilitate year-end projections.  Possibly we need to find a donor to offer a $2,000 “match” to provide incentive for people to make gifts.  KC will draft a letter to our members and friends encouraging everyone to catch up on pledges and participate in the fundraising.

Profit vs. Non-profit Issue.  This is still less than clear.  Carrie will check with the Conference office to see if they can provide guidance on the subject; Carole offered to seek a non-profit CPA through her bar association listserv.

Tax Returns?  In response to an inquiry made in past meetings, Jennifer stated that the church had never been required to file any sort of tax return other than the withholding reports related to salaries and wages.

Next Meeting.  October 14 at 5 p.m.
