Memorial Celebration for Rip West, father of David West: Saturday August 24th at 10am in the Sanctuary with reception to follow upstairs. Although not strictly a member of our community, he attended several Christmas Eve and Easter celebrations here as well as taking in the occasional special performance, evening concert and Ukulele Yule. He was very dear to the West family and requested his service be held here. If you can help with this, contact David West and of course all are welcome.

Ursula Le Guin reinterpretation

Run the country by doing what’s expected.

Win the war by doing the unexpected.

Control the world by doing nothing.

How do I know that?

By this.

The more restrictions and prohibitions in the world,

The poorer people get.

The more experts the country has

The more of a mess it’s in.

The more ingenious the skillful are,

The more monstrous their inventions.

The louder the call for law and order,

The more the thieves and con men multiply.

So a wise leader might say:

I practice inaction, and the people look after

themselves.

I love to be quiet, and the people themselves find

        justice.

I don’t do business, and the people prosper on their

own.

I don’t have wants, and the people themselves are

uncut wood.

Scripture:

John 2:1-11

1On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there, and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”

“Woman,[a] why do you involve me?” Jesus replied. “My hour has not yet come.”

His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”

Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing, each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]

Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.

Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”

They did so, and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine. He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”

11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs through which he revealed his glory; and his disciples believed in him.

Walker Community Announcements

The Fall 2019 Walker Rummage Sale will be held September 26, 27, and 28.

Unlike recent years, we are ready to receive donations. There will be yellow bins in the church to receive donated items and areas will be specified for leaving items and boxes which do not fit the bins.

If you wish to donate and wish to have someone at the church to receive the donation, instead of placing the items in or by the bin, please call Julie Atkinson (612-401-8805) to make arrangements.

We are seeking volunteers to help sort and price the items starting immediately and on a continuing basis until the sale.  If you can donate a couple of hours once, twice or more, please call Julie Atkinson at the above number or leave your name with Diane O’Donnell, Kristine Smith, Julie Atkinson or Nancy Larson. We thank you now and we will thank you later for volunteering.  Our sale will only be successful if many Walkerites are involved.

We are now welcoming and accepting everything except large pieces (like furniture) and will begin to accept them Sunday the 22 of Sept.

Thank you to all who have already volunteered. We need more volunteers both for before the sale for receiving and sorting and during and after the sale.
