Lenten Study Group on Power & Privilege: Wednesdays, Feb 10 through March, noon to 1:30 pm. Bring a bag lunch; the coffee pot will be on.
“This lent I am going to be studying about power and privilege. As a middle age, white, upper middle class, cisgender, male who is college educated and fully employed with health insurance I am in a position that I need to shed my privilege and power. Each of us has our own history and relationship to the world in which we live. I invite you to join me on a Lenten journey to study about privilege power in our world today.
I will be offering the study twice each Wednesday at noon at Walker and at 6 pm with a soup supper at Simpson UMC, 2740 First Ave South. (Suggest parking on 28th St and come in the Red Door off 28th

No House to Call My Home: A Reading & Community Discussion: Sat, Jan 30, 3-4:30pm at Shir Tikvah Congregation, 1360 W Minnehaha Pkwy, Mpls. Join us for an afternoon of community learning and conversation about the harsh realities faced by LGBTQ homeless youth and what we, as a community, can do about it. Hear about a collaborative pilot launching in February to end LGBTQ youth homelessness. Learn what you can do to help. Ryan Berg, author & youth worker from Avenues for Homeless Youth, will read from his new book, No House to Call My Home*. Rabbi Michael Latz and Senator Scott Dibble will provide their own reflections. A panel of youth, youth workers and leaders from Avenues for Homeless Youth, The Link, Reclaim! and Point Source Youth will announce a brand new collaborative project launching soon in the Twin Cities. Tickets for the event are $25 and includes a copy of “No House to Call My Home.” A portion of the ticket sales will benefit Avenues for Homeless Youth. Annual Minnesota Reconciling Congregations social gathering: Sat, Feb 13 at Richfield UM Church, 5835 Lyndale Avenue South. There will be a potluck meal beginning at 11:30 am. Following lunch we will view An Act of Love, the documentary about Frank Schaefer’s decision to officiate his son’s same-sex wedding and the trial that followed. Sunday Meditation Group 8:45 to 10 am every Sunday The first half hour is devoted to mindfulness meditation, next we check in with each other about our week followed by open discussion and ending with a brief “ohming” chant & hugs. On-going Wellness, Movement & Music held at Walker
Winter Frame Drum Class: Mondays, Jan 25, Feb 1, 8 & 15, 7 to 8:30 pm. A 4 session class introducing the Middle Eastern Tar frame drum. These hand-held drums have long been used for song and dance accompaniment, ceremony, and ritual. You will learn in a traditional way that allows the group to support you in mastering basic strokes and rhythms. Class includes rhythm practice handouts and mp3s for home play-along practice.
