Opening Smudge

Lao Tzu # 63 Mitchell followed by 5 minutes of silence

Act without doing; work without effort.
Think of the small as large and the few as many.
Confront the difficult while it is still easy;
accomplish the great task by a series of small acts.

The Master never reaches for the great; thus she achieves greatness.
When she runs into a difficulty, she stops and gives herself to it.
She doesn’t cling to her own comfort; thus problems are no problem for her.

Welcome, Announcements & Offering

Special Performance:  “Brightest & Best” by the Walker Singers

Scripture Reading: Mark 1:21-28
They went to Capernaum; and when the sabbath came, he entered the synagogue and taught.  They were astounded at his teaching, for he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.  Just then there was in their synagogue a man with an unclean spirit, and he cried out, “What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are, the Holy One of God.”
But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent, and come out of him!”  And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying with a loud voice, came out of him.  They were all amazed, and they kept on asking one another, “What is this? A new teaching–with authority! He commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”  At once his fame began to spread throughout the surrounding region of Galilee.

The Sanctuary Art Project is underway with the first round of wrapped sticks installed. Materials, a description and directions are available in the back of the sanctuary. Please feel free to pick out a stick and wrap it anytime and it will be added to the whole. In short, the project is intended to symbolize each of us ‘finding our place in the circle’ by creating a ‘talking stick’ to represent the importance of each person’s voice within the power of community.

From Becky Hanson: Please join me and many others who are urging our city council members to demand bird-safe glass in the new billion dollar stadium. Your calls will help our cause. We intend to maintain the Mississippi River flyway. Both the Mpls and St. Paul City Councils have voted for bird-safe glass, but the committee in charge of construction is not cooperative. Becky Hanson will be at Sunday Celebration on Feb 1 to talk more about this
