Weapons are the tools of violence; all decent people detest them. Weapons are the tools of fear; a decent person will avoid them except in the direst necessity
and, if compelled, will use them only with the utmost restraint.
Peace is the highest value.
If the peace has been shattered, how can we be content?
Enemies are not demons, but human beings like yourself.
We don’t wish them personal harm.
Nor do we rejoice in victory.
How could we rejoice in victory and delight in the slaughter of people? We enter a battle gravely, with sorrow and with great compassion, as if we are attending a funeral.

A New Covenant

The days are surely coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and the house of Judah.

It will not be like the covenant that I made with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt—a covenant that they broke, though I was their husband, says the Lord.

But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put my law within them, and I will write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.

No longer shall they teach one another, or say to each other, “Know the Lord,” for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest, says the Lord; for I will forgive their iniquity, and remember their sin no more.

Sales brisk for “The Walker Sound” music albums released just last Sunday, sales of the music CD, “The Walker Sound,” are encouraging. The CD captures Sunday morning’s unique celebration music and features Walker’s pickup band with outstanding instrumental and vocal solos as well as The Walker Singers choir.  Among the 19 songs on the disc, are “Amazing Grace,” “Let it Be,” “I am a Pilgrim,” “Everybody’s Moon,” and “When the Saints Go Marching In.” A full-color insert  is included in the album’s jewel case, displaying 24 photos, mostly of Walker musicians. Of the initial burn of 100  CDs, sales by mid-week  totaled 30. Once gross sales displace production costs, all proceeds will be contributed to the church treasury. The CD in it’s jewel case and including the insert are priced at $15 each for any individual’s initial purchase, then $12 each for subsequent purchases. The pricing policy suggests multiple copy sales of the album for low-cost gift giving. Purchases can be made Sunday mornings at the church following celebration, or any time by calling Jesse Watkins at (612) 296-3723 or by email: watkinsrh@aol.com.

The Fireroast Mountain Boys featuring Walker’s own David West, Don Browne, Dick Danaher and Steve Sandberg appear once a month at the Underground Music Cafe 1579 Hamline Avenue in St. Paul on the fourth Saturday at 5pm. Original tunes, jazz, rock, and old time served in a convivial wine bar atmosphere with wood fired pizza.
