Truth Tellers Presents

“Experiencing Minnesota through the Eyes of Black Women”

Saturday, Jan 28, 2 pm to 4:30 pm at Walker Church, 3104 16th Avenue South in Minneapolis

Deb Douglas will do a presentation followed by discussion and an action workshop.  The event is presented by  Resonate “which developed out of Deconstructing White Feminism in 2016, the goal of which is to start a discussion around how white feminism has been limiting and damaging in its erasure of other types of femininity and gender identity, while also being complicit in racial injustice in the United States.  One of our goals is to spotlight the lives and amplify the words of Women of Color in Minnesota, hence our series “Experiencing Minnesota through the Eyes of Black Women.” We hope you will join us for a powerful event of truth telling.”  This is a free event with donations welcome.  (The event will also be held Thursday, Feb 9, 7 pm to 9 pm at Walker.) https://www.facebook.com/events/432509260420193

Sunday Celebration

January 29, 2017

Greetings by Janet Court

Communal Singing led by David West

Communal Reading:  Our mission is to nurture spirituality, build caring community & work courageously for peace with justice and mercy.

Opening

Lao Tzu # 5 followed by 5 minutes of silence

The Tao doesn’t take sides;
it gives birth to both good and evil.
The Master doesn’t take sides;
she welcomes both saints and sinners. The Tao is like a bellows:
it is empty yet infinitely capable.
The more you use it, the more it produces;
the more you talk of it, the less you understand. Hold on to the center.

Poetry read by Debra Ramage

Welcome, Announcements, Offering

Scripture:  Matthew 5:1-12 read by Janet Court

When Jesus saw the crowds, he went up the mountain; and after he sat down, his disciples came to him.
Then he began to speak, and taught them, saying:
“Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.
“Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.
“Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
“Blessed are the merciful, for they will receive mercy.
“Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.
“Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.
“Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
“Blessed are you when people revile you and persecute you and utter all kinds of evil against you falsely on my account.
Rejoice and be glad, for your reward is great in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.
