 Lao-Tzu # 13 followed by 5 minutes of silence

Success is as dangerous as failure.
Hope is as hollow as fear.

What does it mean that success is a dangerous as failure?
Whether you go up the ladder or down it, your position is shaky.
When you stand with your two feet on the ground, you will always keep your balance.

What does it mean that hope is as hollow as fear?
Hope and fear are both phantoms that arise from thinking of the self.
When we don’t see the self as self, what do we have to fear?

See the world as yourself. Have faith in the way things are.
Love the world as yourself; then you can care for all things.

Scripture Reading: Psalm 130 by Nancy Larsen
Out of the depths I cry to you, O LORD.  Lord, hear my voice! Let your ears be attentive to the voice of my supplications!  If you, O LORD, should mark iniquities, Lord, who could stand?  But there is forgiveness with you, so that you may be revered.

I wait for the LORD, my soul waits, and in the word I hope; my soul waits for the Lord more than those who watch for the morning, more than those who watch for the morning. O Israel, hope in the LORD! For with the LORD there is steadfast love, and with the Lord is great power to redeem.  It is the Lord who will redeem Israel from all its iniquities.
